The raw, the cooked, the rotten

2023

“DIRECTOR’S NOTE: “It is always relevant to bring to the stage national texts that have marked a milestone in our history.” The person in charge of bringing this new version of “The Raw, the Cooked, the Rotten” to the stage sheds light on the importance of revisiting Marco Antonio de la Parra’s emblematic text. This is the second time Álvaro Viguera has directed a production at Teatro UC; the first was “The Toothbrush,” an adaptation of Jorge Díaz’s classic that became one of the most-watched plays of the 2017 season at the venue, with 10,000 spectators. The theater director has also been at Plaza Ñuñoa several times, leading projects by invited companies such as “Uncle Vanya” and “Lecture on Rain,” as well as co-productions like “Sunset Limited” and “All My Sons.””

An emblematic text in the history of contemporary theater in Chile and the first from the prolific author, Marco Antonio de la Parra. A peculiar restaurant named “The Immortals,” where its workers wait, fantasize, and long for a resolution that has been pending for many years. Amidst humor and hostility, the characters unfold, trapped in a situation where they are both complicit and victims of abuse of power. Under the direction of Álvaro Viguera, this version of the play is presented, stirring up the relevance of its themes and expanding them towards current reality.
