Bio
Álvaro Viguera Hayden (1979) is a prominent actor, director, and academic in the Performing Arts at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (PUC). Throughout his career, he has premiered over thirty plays, establishing himself as one of the most significant figures of his generation. Along with his production company, La Santa, he has worked on the revival of canonical works of all time, particularly the classics of 20th-century American drama.
He has explored diverse expressive styles, including directing his first film, “Pérez.” Between 2020 and 2022, he was the artistic director of the Theater and Education Festival, held at the renowned Teatro del Lago in Frutillar, Chile. In 2022, he received the UC Award for Excellence in Artistic Creation, granted by the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
His versatility has also led him to perform in theater, film, and television.
He recently completed an Artistic Residency as an invited artist at the Teatro del Bio-Bío, to conduct research aimed at a 2025 production.
He has staged plays in the most important venues in the country: Teatro Municipal de Santiago, Teatro del Lago, GAM, Teatro Municipal de Las Condes, Teatro UC, Corpartes, Estación Mapocho, Teatro Corpartes. Specialized critics regard him as a leading figure in contemporary Chilean theater.
